VDC Partners (Virtual Design and Construction), initially named BIM Partners, was established in 2006 by Ben Schwab. As an early adopter of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, Ben recognized how BIM would revolutionize the construction industry. His vision was that BIM would change how and where construction companies design, cost and build. As Ben says, “Our goal is to enable AEC teams to build better.”
VDC Partners exists to help construction owners, designers and builders effectively harness computer technology tools to increase their productivity and convenience, and in turn offer more valuable services to their customers.
VDC Partners provides a blend of services, productivity tools, and consulting to our customers that will assist them in implementing new construction technologies.
The modern technologies that add productivity and convenience to our lives are gifts from a good and gracious God. Jesus Christ has invited us to join Him in His activity in this world. This includes adding productivity and convenience to our customers’ businesses by helping them effectively harness current, new, and emerging technologies. As we are cooperating with Jesus Christ, we will strive to always do our business according to His standards and in ways that honor Him. We will do our work with integrity and honesty, and will strive to provide exceptional value to our customers.
VDC Partners, LLC was started in 2006 by Ben Schwab. This business venture is a continuation of Ben’s use of cutting edge construction technologies for the past 25 years.
Ben’s exposure to construction began early in life. His father, Keith Schwab, was the third generation of Schwabs to own and operate a general construction company in Winona, Minnesota. Ben had many opportunities to gain hands-on understanding of building construction as he worked on jobsites during high school and college. After high school, Ben attended Iowa State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering.
After graduation from Iowa State, Ben worked as a project engineer for Weitz Company, a nationwide construction company. He then moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he started a branch office of the family business. After selling this business he returned to Winona where he was Vice President of Estimating for the family business. During his tenure as Vice President, Ben recognized the potential of BIM and became an early adopter of Autodesk® Revit®.
